Re: HYB: Breeding with IB

Hello Juri,
Wow, there are a ton of fertile IBs now, so many that I just assume that all
newer IBs are fertile until proven otherwise. Logo is so fertile that it
will set a pod if you look at it sideways. Black Current is both pod and
pollen fertile and a really nice IB to look at, has a tendency to be single
socketed. Pleased as Punch is fertile, every recent IB out of our garden is
either pod fertile or both pod and pollen fertile. Most of Keppel's IBs
seem to be fertile. A lot of it might have to do with climatic conditions
in your garden. We have moist spring nights with dry afternoons. Around 10
am to 1 pm just about everything will set a pod, even previously proclaimed
sterile flowers like Suky. Haven't done a chromosome count yet, maybe
someone else can give you that info. I don't think I have helped you too
much, other than to suggest that you try many in your garden to find what
works for you. Good luck.
Sincerely
