Nick, your planting of pseudacorus under a downspout where there might not be rain for months is exactly where my sister-in-law had that iris planted. This was in central Washington, where it doesn't rain much at all (avg. precip. is perhaps 8" per year, if that), and the plant thrived. I got a piece from her, planted it out in the open here in NW Iowa where it got lots more rain, but rarely any irrigation even if we had a dry summer, and it thrived in that situation, too. In another spot it got shade most of the day, very well-drained, gravelly base soil, and irrigation a couple times a summer if we didn't get regular rain, and it thrived there, too. In short, that plant seems to thrive anywhere, including situations where it doesn't get the soggy conditions it loves best. It got too invasive for me, and I dumped it altogether.
