It intrigues me also. My first experience with irises occurred in 1945 when my mother ordered a collection from Oregon which included Lady Mohr. At that time it was touted as being the first green iris. We knew nothing about Arilbreds, and it wasn't until recent years that I learned it was one. It is one of the four from that original collection that I still have. It has few Aril characteristics, and I have discovered that its colors are extremely variable. Here in the hot desert it is mostly a yellow-tan. I took some to our mountain cabin were it survived for a few years without blooming. One wet spring I went up and was astonished to find the most remarkable flower blooming near the cabin door in brilliant colors of gold, purple and olive green. I had never seen anything like it. It took me several minutes to realize that it had to be Lady Mohr. Unfortunately that was the only time it bloomed up there.
Now I also wonder: Do I have the original Lady Mohr? I can't remember ever seeing a pod on it, and I certainly never tried to cross it with anything.

I certainly have no reason to believe that this imposter was in circulation
by then -- and your experience is consistent with others' reports of LM's
performance.
