I've often wondered what EML means - we had a short discussion about
this awhile back. I think we decided <?> that it sometimes means it can
bloom at various times depending on the season , but sometimes means
something else related to length of time the plant stays in bloom.
Since most introductions are <NOT> described as EML, I assume it means
something other than different times when individual blooms open, but
I'm not sure. In any case, EML, whatever it means, <ONLY> refers to
bloom season in the hybridizer/introducers garden. So an EM in one
person's growing region may be an M or ML elsewhere, tho usually they
are more or less in step.
Speaking of which, I have always assumed an ML is somewhere between an M
and an L, not a combination of both bloom times.
Maybe Keith Keppel, registrar extraordinaire, knows what it's supposed
to mean or what most hybridizers mean by it. Seems like Schreiners'
uses EML to describe theirs fairly often. Maybe I'll call their toll
free number later today and ask what they mean by it. Tho posed not
very graciously, it's a good question, Moose.
