I have SILVER FIZZ, which is registered as an EML, but has always been VL for me. It's either the last or next to last to open. (RECHERCHE being last, which IS registered as a VL.)
In some cases, I think things are listed as EML because the hybridizer was too lazy to keep track of when it opened in his/her garden.
My understanding is that the listing is for when an iris first opens, so if it has a lot of buds and sticks around a while, this will not change the listed season. If it sends up STALKS (as opposed to buds) that open later, it may well have more than one season listed. Or it may just be variable from year to year as to how soon it opens.
