We went to an AIS Judges Training last weekend and one of the
trainers is a very knowledgeable person in Species Iris.
One of the items that was brought up is the fact that the USDA (Fed,
not by State)is putting many things on the "invasive plant" list and
limiting/eliminating them from commerce. The speaker feels that any
of the targeted plants may be invasive in one area and an ornamental
in another and the it is a possible big governmental regulation
danger to the whole horticultural community.
I looked for websites debating the issue but could mostly find
governmental websites and "answering articles" about dangers of
regulation were absent. Any ideas where we could go to hear both
sides of the issue? Should we as gardeners be concerned, as this
speaker seems to feel?
Food for thought! Could irises ever be considered by some as
invasive? I could understand how the FDA could possibly consider
them addictive! <Grin>
