Re: CULT: growers poll

Everybody I'm hearing from is using A=alive, D=dead, & BA=better than
average pretty consistently, but BU=better than average growth but
undesirable production of stalks maybe needs clarification.

The reason for including a category of BU is to capture the ones that
grow better than average in our region even tho they don't bloom well
for those of us in locations that routinely get hit by severe, damaging
freezes. For example, TITAN'S GLORY is a BU for me - usually gets
frozen out, but grows like a weed. I would highly recommend it for most
folks in our region unless their garden is in a location especially
vulnerable to late freezes. It will be frozen out most years in some
places throughout our region, but will be fine most years in some
places.

Does that clarify? Should we call it something other than BU? Instead
of one category for BU my garden, I use SS=stunted stalks, DT=dead
terminal fan, ABORTED= for stalks they grow but buds get killed. I
don't want to make things that complicated (for me OR for the growers),
at this point. Judy, what do you think?
