new questions - tetraploid MTB's

Hi all,

Just curious if anyone can tell me (assuming it's even remotely simple) how
the newer tetraploid MTB's came to be. Do they have a totally different
heritage from the diploids? Are these tetraploids 48 chromosome plants?
Most of them definitely seem to have a different "look" about them, but
admittedly I can't always tell a diploid from a tetraploid just by looking.

Yes, I know, ""Dave get you rear in gear and look through the cultivar
listings"".

Thanks,

Dave
