Could someone please advise me regarding the best fertilizer (components & makeup) for sandy, arid and fairly alkaline soil to be used for my tall bearded iris. I am in USDA zone 5 and in summer generally have nearly three months of no measurable rainfall. I believe Arizona and Texas have arid areas like mine. My iris will not bloom till late May. I would really appreciate any suggestions for this type of soil.
