Hi Lera

I recently bought a Fuji S7000. It can be used as a point and shoot, but as
you learn more it can do lots of other things as well. Has an absolutely
killer macro and super macro capability. From what I understand on the
photographic chat lines Fuji in the USA are offering a $100 rebate on this
making it about $500. You can take huge files and even if you crop your
photos they will still enlarge really well.
It isn't a pocket size camera however.
