If nobody objects, I'll be glad to post the germanica discussion we've
already had on germanica to both the Iris species group and the Iris group,
and the discussions can continue at-will on those forums, if people there
are interested. I think some similar (but obviously not identical)
discussions have taken place on at least one of those other groups, and
there are other people there who would surely be interested.
On the other hand, I don't think I should if somebody objects to their
message being forwarded on. So we don't clutter up the group again, you
can send me your feelings personally and I can let everyone know the
concensus. If I don't hear anything back, I won't do anything
I can easily send them en-mass in a text message with a comment at the
start that says something like "we thought you might find this
interesting".
As for the offense of getting off topic (or off purpose). I am a firm
believer that if you don't want to read something, you don't have to, and
there's alwasy the delete key. Text doesn't take up much space. If people
weren't interested, there would be no such discussion in the first place.
On the other hand I agree with Neil 100% that as a courtesy, we could all
agree to move the discussion when we see where it is headed, if and when it
is not anymore relevant to what the group was set up for. I, and I suspect
everyone else realized it was getting too involved, but it's hard to not
get pulled in and continue (it's fun!). This is a very common topic of
discussion in most groups to which I belong, and to be honest I think it
often takes up more space in more messages than the affending discussions
do. Regardless, obviously a few people are bothered by it and we could
have been more courteous.
I least I did post some links to photos, even if not the photos themselves
(doesn't that count?). I know, one has nothing to do with the other.
By the way, one reason I do not cross post is having two computers at
different locations. One is a member of one group and the other a member
of the other two groups. I could remedy this in any number of ways, I just
haven't bothered.
Dave
