Japanese iris

My greetings to you all. I'm coming out of lurkerdom to ask you all for your advice and assistance in hybridizing Japanese iris. I'm pretty new to the iris robin and haven't seen many posts about JIs, but I'm guessing if some of you grow beardeds perhaps you may also grow the JIs. I have enjoyed reading the posts every day and I thank you all for your interesting information.

I've been dabbling for 4+ years with JIs with limited success in pod setting the newer 9- and 12-fall cultivars, more success with the 3 and 6-fall species-type and standard JIs. I've looked all over the internet and have garnered much info, but thought it may be best to seek info directly from the folks in the trenches. Any suggestions you might offer for increased success in pod setting? Time of day? Age of bloom/pollen? Temperature? Method? Have any of you successfully frozen pollen? I would be so grateful for any information you could share or directions to internet sites and books I may have overlooked.
