Re:AIS: awards, judges (recognition)

Maybe have a trial garden within walking distance of every show, since
the judges have to get to the show. Or if not within walking distance,
at least make sure somebody puts the judges in a car and drives them to
the nearest garden. We always try to take our judges at least to Tom
Parkhill's garden.

I forget how many clubs there are in Region 7 that have judged shows
each year - maybe 7? Divide up the 581 TBs - that would still be an
awful lot of plants to take care of at each 'show' garden.

Maybe not even try to grow all of them - say each 'show' garden only
tried to grow around 10 new cultivars, kept for 3 yrs. That would be
only 30 plants. Maybe that's not much better than zero, which is where
we are now.

And now I'm thinking about the hybridizers - if they had to provide
starts of each new introduction to all 24? regions! Yikes.

Maybe we should just hire Bobby Baxter to video every new introduction
he can find throughout the lower 48, as long as he shows them from the
ground up. Then put all the judges in a big room at the annual
convention and let them stare at video tapes for hours on end. ack.

Well, that's enough bad ideas for one day!!
