The confusion of 'Swerti' with Iris aphylla began way back in I believe the 1800's when Curtis's Botanical Magazine pictured it and called it the orange-flowered iris. I don't remember the date off the top of my head, but if someone needs it I could get it for them. It was an obvious error that has been perpetuated to this day. The orange flowered part was that someone thought the fragrance was like that of the flowers of oranges. Unfortunately I have seen numerous places on the world wide web that have perpetuated this error all going back to an uninformed look at the Bot. Mag. reference. I even sent a correction to the department of Agricultures website that shows the irises in Curtis's Botanical magazine. I believe they did correct it afterward. It is discouraging that misinformation can so easily gain a foothold and once in print like a phoenix spring back to life. I guess it proves the archival quality of the printed word.
