RE: Hyb-sweerti
I've just looked up data in "Garden Iris" edited by L. F. Randolph
There is a chapter on pronunciation of iris names for those interested.
Also an index of chromosome counts.
Sweetseri (that's how its written in book) is counted at 38 chromosomes. Seems to be a triploid. Thus could very easily have one parent as aphylla. this would be a first generation hybrid from aphylla as triploids seem to be first generation as they are either sterile or of limited fertility. They would produce either tetraploid or diploid gametes or both and pollen is much reduced in fertility compared to egg gametes.
The other parent could be a species or a garden diploid of hybrid origin. A chromosome identificatiom process would be needed here.
