Re: the "sport" question

I have been asked off-line about the comments I made in response to Dave
Silverberg's question about sports. It was apparent or at least clearly
implied that I had been one of those responding, and the question was raised
about why I didn't post directly to Iris-talk rather than respond only to Dave
personally.

Firstly, the personal response was what Dave asked for.

I do believe, however, even though this matter has come up before on
Iris-talk, that there are a number of people who might find it of some use to
know what was said.

There was a set of three posts I made on Iris-talk on 8/12/2003 and 8/13/2003
about the question of sports among a number of other informative comments by
various contributors.

My own were combined, shortened somewhat and published as an entry in TBIS's
*Tall Talk,* with a correction in the following issue resulting from my
incomplete information at the time concerning the separate identities of
KALAIDOSCOPE and JOSEPH'S COAT KATKAMIER. I was unaware that the matter had
been clarified by the 1989 registration for A. Katkamier by E.
Tankesley-Clarke.

I also re-discovered later the article re-published for Jean Witt on a
subordinate page of the HIPS website concerning the various sports of
HONORABILE. These various sports had been used in my comments as illustrating
the nature of a sport. Jean knows far more than I do about this particular
group of clones, and anyone caring to have accurate information about them
should refer the matter to her article, not mine.

None-the-less, the general concept of sport is clearly enough set forth in
those original posts that I feel free to refer the curious to them. To
navigate to those posts one begins at the page headed "Iris-talk archives,"
go down the list to August 2003, then on that page select either date or
author. Both choices should lead easily to the original entries.
