(This is what I meant by climate sensitive cultivars - i.e., EARL OF
ESSEX, which did not survive long here.)

Chasing pedigrees, and registered heights, it looks like EoE has a lot
of tall purples in it's pedigree, so maybe there was enough dose of
'tall' in the genes to produce tall babies in later generations. ??

Almost looks like it's a dosage effect, maybe some bit of a link between
short and (one of) the rebloom sets of genes, but hard to guess how much
of that is fixed by genes and how much is due to differences in growing
conditions amongst hybridizers!
