HYB:Sprouts

Oh, goodness! Sure is good that I decided to peek beneath the straw this
afternoon! Many seedling crosses have already sprouted.

Didn't expect to find anything today because it is still early . . . Only
got earlier than this in 1992 when they started the last week in February.
(2-25) Straw cover this year, and leaf cover in 1992.

Two of my 1812 crosses have started sprouting. They both have 1620-9 as the
pollen parent. Field numbers 8 & 9. (early) But the one with the most and
biggest sprouts are the 1620-4 crosses. ((Chinese New Year x Theme Master) X
Snow Melt) has the most, both seed and sprouts, followed by 1620-4:((Chinese
New Year x Theme Master) X 1625-1Re:(Star Gate x (Violet Returns x
Breakers))) Field numbers 4 & 5. (early) 1625-1Re blooms during regular season and
again in Late July or early August.

Looks like early crosses mean early sprouts. Early begets early.

Another cross that is noteworthy is 2008. It is sprouting. It is
noteworthy because, according to my notes, I found the stalk rotted on June 11. I
recall that it had totally collapsed so I had no idea when the nourishment
stopped. It hung in a lace bag, pegged to my message board in the office for
weeks. Cross (23) was made about the first week in May. Didn't count the
sprouts but it has a few. Planted 64 small seed.

There are no sprouts in the crosses that have registered irises other than
my own as the pod parent. Even the crosses that were early.
