Re: CULT: Tucson bloom
I've had some rebloom & a couple of early TBs. Sometimes the new ones are
confused by our warm winters & bloom extra early the first year. This year,
TEAM SPIRIT (Keppel ) and SUN BEIGE (Cadd ) put up early stalks.
Unfortunately, the bunnies ate the stalk of Sun Beige when it was about a foot high.
Team Spirit came after the bunny fence went up. The stalk was short & the birds
tore up the flowers (bird netting next??) This has been a horribly dry
winter - no rain here since a brief sprinkle in October.
BRAGGIN RIGHTS (Burseen 05) put up three stalks on a first year clump - the
last flowers just opened. Big and beautiful stalks, too! Mr. Burseen listed
it as VVE and he wasn't kidding. Great here, but I couldn't recommend it to
late freeze areas! His BAD BOB'S JUDY (Burseen 05) has a stalk coming up
now.
Right now, REs in bloom are: RASPBERRY FROST (Sutton 01), MIL BYERS (Byers
97), STARMASTER (Bob Dunn 87) and SUGAR BLUES ( Zurbrigg 95).
Kasperek's BLUEBERRY FILLY (IB 2000) BLOOMED at ground level, right out of
the rhizome - don't know what happened to cause that.
Growth has really taken off the last few weeks & if we get the rain
predicted for the weekend, it will be wonderful. I have been watering twice a week &
fertilized a couple of weeks ago. I think I may hit them with Miracle Gro
again this weekend. From the looks of things, I am expecting an early and
excellent bloom. I hope I can keep the critters away from them so I can take
some decent photos & enter our show.
Eagerly awaiting April,
