Another trick I've used successfully to keep crows out of newly planted corn is to just run string around the planted area, running a few pieces crosswise. Not too much, just enough to make it look very suspicious.

The crows are pretty smart tho, therefore capable of being a bit paranoid about traps. Not sure this would work on a cranky territorial mockingbird running on hormones rather than looking for food.
