Re: HYB: heritable traits


Donald, re: the various traits that contribute to strength. Leaf surface resistance to disease establishment is one thing, but ability to overcome/repair damage is also important. I don't know how those things fit together.

Trying to sort out all the traits that go into strength and how they interact with each other and with growing conditions is a challenge - I don't know enough about plant physiology to get much beyond intuition for what might or might not work here, and that's maybe not particularly applicable to what will work somewhere else.

While at the Portland convention, I did my best to try to identify a few cultivars that looked like they had strength to thrive here, & didn't do too well.
