It's been extremely hardy and durable here, but not able to evaluate how fast it grows. Or how well it would hold up to Canadian cold. And am not sure about mature leaf count on it, HoM, or any of the other crosses I've made in the past with HoM.
<I haven't grown Pink Quartz, so don't know how hardy it is, how fast it grows, or what it's mature leaf count is. Isn't HOM's mature leaf count fairly high?
I'll count up all the seedlings I've grown from HoM. I can think of about 50, but will check to see if there were more. After I posted note yesterday, I remembered that there is one HoM seedling that does occasionally late FC, from PINAFORE PINK pollen.
That's a minimum of 1/4, right? Assuming they all grow well. Judging from how few FC seedlings have turned up from HoM crosses, if your theory is right, it wouldn't be likely to have more than one copy of each.
Maybe I should say ASSUMING THEY ALL GROW WELL. ;-) Or at least as well as possible - loose soil, fertilizer, water, none of which they always get here. Now that I have the HoM X PINK Q seedlings untangled and re-set, maybe I can shade and water them during dry spells, see if I can lure one of them into FC bloom.
<I'm seeing FC as being two dominant genes working together. 1) Nonvernalization of flower 2) not light triggered dormancy plus secondary factors
of flowering timing. So if FC has one each of these dominant genes, 1/4 of seedlings would have one copy of each So out of 14, 3-4 would be expected to have FC genes.> Linda Mann east TN USA zone 7 --------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with the message text UNSUBSCRIBE IRIS
