        oops, I should have expanded on my original message, Kathy, I ALWAYS
        sow some annuals in mid-May testing Mother Nature's propensity to
        kill them before the first week of June.  Most "normal" gardeners
        (like my husband) wouldn't dream of doing any "real" planting until
        after May 30th.  I go to ridiculous lengths like sneaking out almost
        every two hours and checking the temp and covering every little plant
        mound with all sorts of contraptions I can get my hands on.  It is
        a war of wills...this same thing occurs in Sept. (even August) when
        we usually get some frost.

        It is more serious because my beloved iris might be affected in late
        summer.
