I grow a large selection of arils and arilbreds here on the front range of
Colorado, Zone 5. The cold winters don't seem to hurt them at all, but if you
get a lot of moisture in the summer (we don't) I think that could be a
problem, especially with the OGB+.  The idea of pots sounds good.  Sink the
pot in the ground in September and dig it up about July 1.  (That's what I do
with pure arils- minus the pots)  The arilbreds might like a couple of
waterings during the summer.  

To me, arils are the MOST BEAUTIFUL of garden flowers.
