Someone asked me last month about this term. I was baffled. The person
who asked eventually found a listing in a popular gardening book, equating
"African Iris" with the genus Ixia. This is a genus similar to Moraea and
Dietes and the other South African irids. So "African Iris" is probably
used sometimes to refer to any irids from Africa, but may also be used
for Ixia specifically.
Maybe.
Yet more evidence for the virtue of using botanical nomenclature. ;)
