>From Linda Mann's post of 3/5:
>>what is ogb+? and how many chromosomes does it/them have?
First, the code OGB indicates an arilbred that has onco, regelia, and bearded
ancestry. The "+" sign says that has more aril than non-aril chromosome sets.
They include triploids, which typically have about 33 chromosomes, as well as
tetraploids, which typically have around 44.
>> are hybridizers still adding tall bearded genes to the arilbreds?
Yes. But it's not easy.
>> do all current arilbred tetraploids commonly referred to have the same
chromosome number and what is it?
No. It varies. It can sometimes be estimated from pedigree analysis and can
often be assessed for practical purposes from breeding behavior, but can't be
accurately determined without a chromosome count.
>> are they fertile with tbs?
Once in a while -- but to cover this would require much more than a short
message. The 1991 ASI YB has an article that should help: "The Story of
Whirlwind Romance".
