just toured the weed patch in a nice drizzling comfortable east tennessee
spring day and had to share...some of the molligrub prone iris managed to
finally die over the winter. good riddance.
most of the newcomers seem to be doing pretty well so far - last year's came
from mt view, cooley's, and chet tompkins - the first two included a note
saying they sure hope they do well and to let them know - all made some
substitutions for me based on my request to only send the more rot resistant
. after hearing how rot prone my garden is, neither was going to promise
anything. realists! will have to see if any of the early bloomers make
flowers after all these march deep freezes, and of course, if they survive
the peak rot season during and after bloom, but so far, plants are doing
better than some of my past purchases.
so far, the only near death is SUGAR BLUES, but it may have just had more
cold injury to early foliage growth.
anybody out there interested in hearing the gory details of everything i
tried to grow this year? most are 80s varieties, a few are 90s.
