Gunnar, I recieved a great book the other year. Its actually a professor's
Thesis.
Dr. Norman C. Deno, Prof. Emeritus of Chemistry, (Pennsylvania State
University). In his paper he discribes experiments in seed germination of
"145 Families, 805 Genera, and about 2500 Species". Its cost to me was less
than 20 dollars U.S.. I have tried many of his suggestions with various
wildflowers of U.S.A. Many of these were difficult to germinate prior to
recieving this book. I have not tried any of his suggestions on Iris,
except pseudocorus. It germinated rather easily for me. For I. pseudocorus
I took a plastic zip lock bag, Placed in it a paper towel moistened with
sterile water. Put seed on paper towel, and zipped bag. Bag was placed on
top of refrigerator, Nice warm place, seed germinated within 21 days. No
cold treatment. No bleach treatment. I didnt get the fungal rot I have seen
with some other Iris seed. If your interested in the document its only
available from Dr. Deno. Address all inquiries and orders to Norman C. Deno,
139 Lenor Drive, State Cjjollege PA 16801, USA. I do not know the current
price of the paper but I do Know its worth the money spent. Also These are
ongoing experiments which he is currently and continually updating. He is
probably in the third or forth update if he has kept up the pace. Also If
anyone has any difficult to germinate seed. I would say He can figure out a
method to germinate it. I have no inside interest in Dr. Deno, nor do I
know, or have I ever met the man. I do know that he has done a lot of
homework.
