Louise, I grow 100 plus Siberian cultivars...and have grown most that have
been available over the past 20 years. Old TEALWOOD remains my wife's
favorite Siberian, and certainly is one of mine. It's breeder, Steve Varner,
who has introduced many outstanding Siberians, will be awarded the AIS
Distinguished Hybridizer's Medal at Sacramento. Well deserved too. The
other two American hybridizers who will receive that award at Sacramento are
Fred Gadd of Mass, who has done miracles in breeding arilbreds that grow and
thrive in the Northeast, and Dr. D. C. Nearpass, who for a number of years
managed the AIS Slide Program, and whose great iris hybridizing
accomplishments include DOVER BEACH, SPINNING WHEEL, PURPLE PEPPER, LORD
BALTIMORE, SWEET ANITA and MY KATIE.
