Gunnar,
Regarding toads eating your slugs - yes, they do devour slugs and so
do garter snakes, moles (NO! - they cause more problems than the
slugs & snails in my garden),shrews (I am assuming they are not good
for the garden but don't know), ducks & goslings, and turtles (which
can cause damage in the garden). Of course there is the decollate
snail (Rumina decollata) which happily plays the cannibal. No thanks.
Also, regarding BEER & slugs - ".....it was concluded that the fermen-
tation of the lager yeasts, and NOT the alcoholic content, lured the
slugs to the beer bait. The slugs preferred a near beer, Kingsbury
Malt Beverage over Michelob and Budweiser, the runners-up."
