Tom and others,
When the Awards System was changed a few years back, the recommendation was
made that an additional year be added before an iris became eligible for an
HM (making it three years).  There was some opposition to this proposal,
especially from western TB breeders.  On the other hand, there was great
support for the proposal especially among beardless iris breeders.  A
compromise was reached, and the additional year was adopted for beardless
irises, while the smaller time was left in place for bearded irises. I have
always favored the longer time for all irises.  Do you think this should be
brought before the Board again...I'm quite willing to do it if there is
strong support for the longer time for bearded irises.  Clarence Mahan
