Sure, lets do the opinion poll, sounds like fun. I guess we'll have to
wait a few years to find out if we were right or not though!
I'm picking SKYWALKER to go on to greatness in irisdom. (HONKY TONK BLUES x
ALTRUIST) Second pick would probably be SKYLARK'S SONG. SWINGTOWN
ispretty nice looking though. But how many "cover" iris have gone onto be
big award winners? I'll have to check the catalogue collection.
One thing that I've noticed with the photos this year and a few from last
year is that there is a departure from the format of the view that is
shown. There are views from every sort of angle in this years catalogue.
Not so sure that I like it. I like them all shot from the same
angle--straight on to one of the falls.(for TB's anyway) This way suble
differences in
the shapes of the blooms can be compared, also I like them all to be the
same
for the sake of consistency in the look of the catalogue. I also like the
photos of the iris that are studio shots with controlled lighting as they
definitely show the detail much, much better than in the garden shots. A
couple of years ago the photos of the new intros were a lot better
photographically. I don't really like the photos close-cropped either.
All this years are close-cropped except SKYWALKER. For examples of some
of the better shots photographically check out the 1992 catalogue;ISLAND
SUNSET, FALL FIESTA, CLASSIC LOOK. 1993 Catalogue; NORTHWEST PRIDE,
RAMBLIN' ROSE, and almost all of the other intro photos in that years
catalogue. They are superb quality photos showing every nuance of the
irises. Now to the other end of the spectrum the photo quality of some of
the new intros in the 1995 catalogue is abysmal, for example;PARTY
LIGHTS,DREAMSICLE. In the 1996 catalogue HEAVENLY VISION, CAJUN RHYTHM and
SOMBRERO WAY could be much better if shot in the studio and at the
"normal TB iris" angle.
I digress from the cyberopinionpoll. Oh well.
