Mt. Gretna Gardens, owned by Steve Brown, has a large colletion of
Louisanas as well as a respectable collection of Siberians, Japs and
daylillies. He marketed the LA's as "cold aclimated". I can assure that
the Louisana bloom there in Zone 6 was spectacular. The property is
being sold and the new owners have expressed interest in continuing the
business for perhaps another season. I'll be happy to forward requests
to the new owners. Please e-mail me directly at rdhager@dmv.com since I
only briefly scan iris-l in digest form.
Many gardeners assume that Louisanas are water plants. Yes, but NOT.
They do grow in standing water, but they don't need it. They ARE heavy
feeders. They can do well in the mixed border with all that mulch (the
stuff that kills TB's) if they get an extra dose of fertilize.
