I am no expert. I do think that the remontants that do best here grow rapidly
in spring and perhaps early fall, but try to close down for the winter. This
seems close to habits of I variegata. Small ,short fans for getting through
the winter safely. However, this is probably wrong for Texas, and may be a
carry-over from my early days with iris in Canada. In Virginia, (for 29
years), summer growth was continuous, for we lived in the foothills in
Radford, and rebloom was earlier and steadier. Note my reference to the
stalk of MATRIX, which is about to bloom, on March 7! No dwarfs open and
down to 28 F last night. I am truly amazed at this stalk; it has had no
protection and we have had lots of frosts! Lots to learn yet. Lloyd
