Yes, crickets will devour iris.  Many years ago,  while in the process
of separating iris, I would clean off the iris, make my cuts on the
rhisome and put them on the patio to dry off and harden the cut.  The
next day upon returning from work I checked out the iris on the patio. 
Dozens of crickets escaped as I was turning over the iris.  My policy,
since I've retired is separate, cut, clean, disinfect powder down with
sulphur as much as I can get done in a day's work. Also I've had
crickets gnaw into the living rhisome of minature iris.
