Amy,

I can't recommend from experience yet, since I planted my first Louisianas
last Fall, but I can give you a list of some LA's which were recommended in
an article in the Society for Louisiana Irises Winter 1996 Newsletter. The
article, written by Gordon Rabalais, was entitled "Irises in the Landscape,
Favorite landscape irises suitable for naturalizing" with the reference to
irises obviously being LA's. He recommends the following varieties of LA's
for their vigor and ability to naturalize in the landscape:

MARIE CAILLET (Conger, 1963)
MARIE DOLORES (Haymon, 1988)
CLYDE REDMOND (Arny, 1971)
WHEELHORSE (Dormon, 1952)
CREOLE FLAME (Wyatt, 1973)
CREOLE CANARY (Granger, 1978)
DELTA STAR (Granger, 1968)
ROSE CARTWHEEL (Granger, 1980)
JERI (Bertinot, 1985)
GEISHA EYES (Arny, 1987)
COLORIFIC (Mertzweiller, 1979)
COUNT PULASKI (Chowning, 1980)

The only one of these that I currently have is JERI. I hope to expand my
LA collection this year, too. In fact I have already have a good sized
wish list for LA's and I'm starting a second list to pare it down to
something remotely affordable.:) In addition to some of the ones on the
list above, some LA's on my wish list for this year are:

DANCING VOGUE (Taylor, 1994)
KENTUCKY CAJUN (Norris, 1995)
FAIT ACCOMPLI (Dunn, 1990)
DELTA HONEY (Chowning-Rowlan, 1988)
GRACE DUHON (Haymon, 1988)
RICH TRADITION (Taylor, 1991)
CHERRY CUP (Morgan, 1989)
MARY'S CHARLIE (Dunn, 1982)
WAVERLY PINK (Lineberger, 1989)

I'm also on the brink of purchasing the book, The Louisiana Iris by Marie
Caillet and Joseph Mertzweiller. Does anyone else have this book? Does it
have lots of pictures over which to drool and dream?

-Donald
