The World Of Irises pg 314 sez that "Bearded iris rhizomes can be
replanted any time and they will live and eventually bloom..."

That being said, probably the sooner the better. The WOF also says "
Then as bud swellings appear in the new fans there is a quickening of
the new roots that will supply the plant with nutrients for new growth
during and after bloom." Take as much root system as you can, keep the
roots covered and get them back in the ground or in a pot as soon as you
can. They may not bloon this year but will probably bloom next year.
