I am coming to the conclusion that climate zones are not very usful in
predicting whether or not a particular cultivar will rebloom.
Obviously there are Zone 5's and Zone 5's. One of the differences I imagine
is the length of winter or perhaps more correctly, the number of frost free
days or the number of growing days. Perhaps the day length at different
latitudes may play a role also. There must be some reason why "Immortality"
to take one example performs so differently for various growers in Zone 5.
Most years here it is almost a continual rebloomer from early August onward.
For the record, here are a few of the quite reliable rebloomers here.
"Immortality", "Belvi Queen" and "Rainbow Sherbet" have never missed a year.
"Jewel Baby", "Velvet Toy", "Autumn Tryst", "Renown". "Champagne Elegance",
"Hi Low Silver", and "Marmalade Skies" can almost always be counted on and
there are others in this group but their names escape my memory at the moment.
I have another which never misses but I have no name for it. When it blooms
this year, I shall make some careful notes and challenge you with it's ID.
