I have never tried it, but I have been told that you must use black plastic
here, or the weeds will love their nice little greenhouse. Since killing
weed seeds is one of the supposed benefits of solarization, I think its
effectiveness is debatable here. Since we do occasionally get hot days
here, I think the problem may be more our nighttime lows. We very rarely
get nights that are too warm for comfort.
I have wondered if a 'rule of thumb' may be that it won't work well
anywhere you can comfortable cross a macadam driveway with bare feet.
