chipmunks

Margie,
Chipmunks are little pests. To the best of my knowledge, they don't
actually harm Iris rhizomes. Their tunnels can be used by vermin that are
harmful. Also, a multitude of tunnels can lead to excessive drying of the
soil.
I used to feed the birds, but I stopped because I was over run by
Chipmunks, Blackbirds, and Crows. Now that I stopped feeding, most of the
Chipmunks have left. Also helping matters is a Hawk that has been
"patrolling" this area.
