I think Tom's answer to Diana's about e-mail robins not being a
sidebar to the iris-l was a very important point - they are two
separate entities. One doesn't detract from the other...and Kathy's
point of missing information was heard but I don't think it will
be a problem.
Somehow I found myself in the unenviable position of being sort of
'director' of the Siberian e-mail robin...I really don't know how
it happened but, at least temporarily, I will 'volunteer' for the
job.
I did some thinking about this whole subject today and have come
to some conclusions:
1. E-mail robins that concentrate on a particular class of iris in
this case, Siberians, are more like an focused discussion
group on-line as opposed to a mailing list like iris-l.
2. There is no reason why significant information cannot be dissemin-
inated to the iris-l if a robin member chooses to share it.
3. In my way of thinking, we are a collection of 9 individuals (so
far) who share an interest in Siberian irises and have chosen to
correspond by e-mail. Nothing more, nothing less. There are all
kinds of private iris conversations going on all the time and some
are reported back to the iris-l and some are not.
4. An e-mail robin is not limited to iris-l members - unless the
robin membership decides otherwise.
5. Maybe we will cease to exist tomorrow if the SIBROB decides to
disband....but I don't think so.
Cheers,
Ellen
