Our soil has a pH of 5.7 which is good for JIs and SIs and
hopefully our bearded irises will do as well....I do
amend the soil for peonies and day-lilies and nothing else.
Just the immediate hole in one of the mixed borders which is a
hodge-podge of everything including SIs, species, I. pallida, etc.
I am careful not to have JIs near this particular bed since
I add bone meal to the soil. I have some raised beds and
some not (of course JIs are not in a raised bed).
Cheers,
Ellen
