Thursday, which was a 70 degree day, I finished cleaning the iris beds
of dead iris leaves and the neighbors blown tree leaves. I noticed
three iris suffering from what appears to be crown rot. Two were in an
older bed and the third was in a brand new bed transplanted in late
August. The iris in the new bed were washed in a bleach solution,
allowed to dry and then dusted with garden sulphur. Had no borers or
symptoms of rot when separated. I dusted the three iris with a chlorine
scouring powder, as it was what I had at hand. Now, I'm not sure what I
have. We have had a warm wet winter, not going below zero.
