There are NO dumb questions...   and I'm putting this on the list because the
type of questions you ask are the things newer people want to know... and
THAT's why we're here!

The increases are the babies that are attached to the mother rhizome like
suckling pigs.  The mother rhizome, if it has bloomed, will not do so
again... so you can easily see how a clump of good growers like I posted can
get outrageously overcrowded in a short time with a dead center....
