OT -- CUT FLOWER LIFE

Hi--
I hope this works for irises. I caught it surfing the net.

To prolong the life of cut flowers:
1. Cut stems with a sharp knife
2. recut stemsevery 2 days or else they form a scab and don't absorb
water
3. keep all foliage out of the water so they don't stagnate (and smell)
4. add 2 aspirin (and call me in the morning)
5. keep vase away from fruit --it gives off methane gas that kills
flowers (the things you learn)
6. change the water every time you cut the stems
7. keep the flowers in indirect light
8. don't put vase on top of tv -- the heat wilts the flowers
9. for roses: if the head falls over, it's not drinking--lay it in
4-6" of cold water and leave overnight (do you believe this?) When you
first cut roses cut them at an angle and when you re-cut, do it under
water, add a teaspoon of sugar and 2 drops of bleach (curiouser and
curiouser)
10. tulips--put pennies in the water -- copper keeps the stems upright
(apparently pre-1980 pennies are best because they have more copper in
them) don't use more than 5 per vase -- too toxic.

Well-- i guess some of this is obvious. As for the rest?????????
