Thanks everyone for the advice on Poast. We have been using it for
several years. I spray it over the roses as well as the iris. The only
problem with Poast is that the grass needs to be actively growing (not a
problem) and recently watered (big problem when in the middle of a 5
year drought) to work well. Last year we got almost no rain from March
until September and even watering with my drip irrigation system did not
water the grass well enough. We sprayed Poast 3 times over the main
beds and never got any relief. Bindweed is NOT affected by Poast.
Round-up and Banvel both work on the bindweed and as long as you do not
spray it directly on the iris you will make out pretty good. We have
been doing this since 1989. Unfortunately, last year we decided to try
spraying directly over the iris after being assured by several
old-timers that they had been doing it for years with no ill effects.
There iris must be tougher than mine because mine did not like it.
Anyway thanks for all the advice.
