CULT:to the rescue!

Dear iris-listers,
I've just completed a long overdue job. Rescuing unknown and
impoverished irises from the far neglected reaches of my garden. Some
were reasonable clumps which haven't flowered for a few years. Others
were buried deeply or living in acidic and extremely dry conditions.
The dry ones have tiny little rhizomes and only 1 or two little leaves.
The buried ones have new rhizomes developing 2 or 3" above the old, as
they try to reach the surface. One Rz was actually 8" deep.
One large well buried Rz was rotten, but still had a large healthy shoot
coming off it! TB's are amazingly tough.
I may have to wait two years for some to flower, but I'm hoping to
rediscover:
Pinnacle
Eleanor's Pride
Alpine Ghost
Sable Night
Snow Peach
Elizabeth Noble

I remember some of these colours from past flowerings, when I knew
little of irises and nurtured the large showy ones that grew like weeds.
Must be patient!
-Jan Clark
