Mark -- The Walking Iris pictured on the Cork Board is labeled
"(gracilis?)". I think it is not "gracilis", but "northiana". The
description of "northiana" given in Wyman's Gardening Encyclopedia fits
the plant I have, which is the one pictured on the Cork Board.
"Gracilis" is described as having "white 2-in flowers (with) yellow and
brown markings", with the alternate name of Slender False Flag; whereas
"northiana" is described as "pure white (flowers) 3-4 in. across, with
the inner segments violet" and "very fragrant", alternately named
Apostle Plant. My neighboring gardener had me over on Saturday to see
her neomarica in bloom. Its fragrance filled the room, and would be
worth having even if the flower weren't beautiful. She was surprised to
learn that the plant she potted and gave to me has four buds on it
already. I'm looking forward to the bloom.
