I appreciate all the responses to my query about walnut leaves in the
compost pile. From what has been said I've concluded that they may not
be harmful in my compost pile, since I don't bother with tomatoes &
peppers, From the long list of tolerant plants it would appear that
almost everything would be safe. Secondly, mine is an ENGLISH walnut,
which may be another matter, since most of the responses seem to refer
to Black Walnuts. I do, and have had for years, a variety of bulbs,
perennials, & shrubs growing in that bed. My rose garden is rather
close, but not too many leaves fall into it. I also have a fish pond,
the edge of which is probably 15 ft from the trunk of the ENGLISH walnut
tree and I expect that those fish which have died met their demise for
reasons other than the walnut leaves which occasionally dropped into it.
If my conclusions about the compost pile are incorrect, please correct
me and perhaps the walnut leaves will go to the burn pile instead of the
compost pile.
