A good (and cheap) database program that we find excellent for keeping
records of not only our iris but other plants as well is a program
called "My DataBase." We've been using it for about 4 years --
essentially the program allows you to create your own matrix and include
as many fields as you need for as much information as you want to
record.
For example, for each of our iris we record the name, hybridizer, year
of introduction, class/type, location in garden (bed # and location),
where we got the plant, price we paid, awards won, height, bloom,
whether it's an historic and/or rebloomer, color, special notes, etc.
We can sort by any of these fields.
It's easy to set up the database for each type of plant you want to keep
track of -- we have iris in one, daylilies in another, guest iris for
the 1999 Region 18 regional. Information we track for each is
different.
The program is available from MySoftware Co. in Menlo Park, CA. Phone #
is 1-800-325-3508 (in CA it's 1-415-235-9383). Cost is $29.95 +
shipping. Program is compatible with Windows 3.1 or Win95.
